Recognition, Responsibility & Reaction: Sexual Harassment Workshop
Please consider RSVPing to the upcoming workshop organized by Sophia Weerth, sponsored by WiSci, and in cooperation with the UGA Equal Opportunities Office (EOO), Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), and Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP).
Sexual Harassment in STEM fields is recognized but not often addressed with appropriate training. Training that is out there is often outdated, unrealistic, entirely passive and often fails to cover peer to peer harassment. With close personal relationships commonly forming between lab members it is easy to blur the lines between friendly banter and inappropriate workplace behavior. However, how do you know if something crosses the line, or how do you react if something crosses the line and you are uncomfortable? We want to help. The sexual harassment workshop is designed to explain what forms of sexual harassment there are and introduce you to campus resources that can help you handle sexual harassment. The workshop will also include a role playing section, where we will review real life sexual harassment scenarios to cover what can count as sexual harassment and also how to respond to such harassment to prevent escalation. Please see the link below to RSVP and to submit an anonymous sexual harassment scenario that you have witnessed or were part of. These story submissions will help us create accurate and realistic training to prevent sexual harassment in STEM fields.
When: Friday Sept. 30th, 3-5pm
Where: Odum School of Ecology auditorium
Who: Anyone interested. Sexual harassment can happen to anyone from anyone (male to male, female to female, female to male and male to female). We want to help you recognize it and give you the tools to react suitably.
